This report presents a detailed but straightforward analysis of financial and operating characteristics of more than 100 participating HARDI firms. Results are presented in tables and graphs designed to provide a comprehensive guide for analyzing distributor profitability. Surveys were mailed on March 15, 2013. Surveys are mailed to all members to collect detailed financial and operating data. Completed surveys are returned directly to Profit Planning Group for analysis. Individual responses are kept strictly confidential by Profit Planning Group. Neither HARDI nor any other firm has access to any individual firm’s survey or results.
Sections of the Profit Report include:
An overview of study results including a graphical presentation of key results.
An analysis determining return on investment and financial and productivity ratios.
Participants are classified by percentage of product sales based on the following stipulations:
A/C & Plumbing..........................HVAC/heating w/plumbing sales > HVAC/heating w/sheet metal sales
Sheet Metal & A/C .....................HVAC/heating w/sheet metal sales > HVAC/heating w/plumbing sales
A/C Specialist.............................HVAC/heating > 50% of sales
Controls & Refrigeration............Controls and parts/refrigeration > 50% of sales
Participants are grouped according to specific geographical regions determined by HARDI. The regions are: Northeastern, Mid-Atlantic, Southeastern, Great Lakes, Central, Southwestern, Western, and Canada.
An examination of changes in performance over time for key results and ratios.
Sufficient samples indicating a “range of common experience” are presented for business segments.
A summary of ratio calculations.
